Our clients
serve in a variety of market sectors—education, city, county, municipal government,
healthcare. But, none are more
elusive than the work of public utilities. Fifteen years ago, utilities were limited to “water and
power.” Today they include data, telecommunications, and alternative
energy. Unlike other aspects of
“public” works, public utilities are often quasi-governmental agencies, making
it difficult to access decision makers, understand selection processes and
define business units (buyers).
For those
interested in “dipping a toe” into this world, the California Public Utilities
Commission will host its business expo at the Irvine Marriott on April 12th
from 1:00 am to 1:00 pm. For more information contact 800.253.0500 or
smallbiz.cpuc.gov. Check out their one-on-one matchmaking for firms and utility
companies. Remember, this is just
an intro course. Developing a new
market takes time.
